Eilish McColgan withdraws from games

Eilish McColgan has stated she will skip Glasgow due to insufficient fitness for the 10,000m on Monday following a recent foot fracture.

“Regrettably I will not compete at Glasgow 2026. Following nearly 10 weeks sidelined this likely comes as little shock,” McColgan noted. “The positive update is that I have resumed running. The negative is that time has simply run short to restore myself and my toe to competitive form.

Having begun the year in peak condition I recognize the fitness exists yet after only my initial outdoor run a couple of weeks back the schedule proved too tight. I will support Team Scotland throughout the week in Glasgow and extend best wishes to all squad members for success at the Games.”

Singapore versus Papua New Guinea begins the schedule in women’s 3x3 basketball shortly. Numerous highlights await on the court throughout the day.

England maintain dominance against Northern Ireland holding a 24-7 margin at the close of the first quarter. An upset appears unlikely.

I would choose this over anything else. Nerves peaked this morning but once underway I became focused and detached then proceeded. My family and friends invested their earnings to attend and I seek to honor them with a medal.”

Devlin works at Aldi as his regular job.

Comments from Sean McCann upon reaching the final: “I feel thrilled. This exceeded expectations entering the Championships given the competitive field so qualifying stands as outstanding.

I would not describe it as pressure yet nerves were present. Many spectators attended and I sought a strong showing not solely for myself but also for Team Scotland. I am pleased to have delivered a solid performance.”

Australia meets England in netball on Sunday in Pool A after overpowering Tonga 99-38. They nearly reached 100 points.

Their captain Liz Watson stated: “The squad urged the bench toward 100 but this marked an exceptional beginning. The team depth impresses so we feel truly satisfied with the opener. Activity will intensify soon. Substantial rest and recovery will be essential as events will pass rapidly.”

Across the 2010 2014 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games Le Clos accumulated 18 medals comprising seven gold four silver and seven bronze. Additional achievements likely await in Glasgow.

Australia performs impressively against Tonga first-time entrants leading 51-15 at half-time.

The Australian netball squad competes taking on Tonga and leading 23-12 after the first quarter as the title holders quickly found rhythm.

Final score: Scotland 44-74 New Zealand. The Kiwi side appeared formidable while the Scots delivered a respectable effort. The crowd at the Hydro showed much appreciation.

In netball New Zealand heads toward victory over Scotland. In the fourth quarter the score stands at 63-40 with limited time remaining.

Sean Ingle has appreciated his experience thus far in Glasgow.

Yet despite these early adjustments and several vacant seats it proved inconsequential. These Games may be described as reimagined which translates to reduced scale. Still as the initial full day of competition demonstrated they preserve considerable character and appeal.
The character came from Botswanan lawn bowler Diza Mphotho who entertained the audience at the indoor SEC arena with his bucket hat and relaxed approach even though he finished on the losing side of a 10-3 16-1 defeat to Guernsey’s Jason Greenslade.
