Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto has stressed that his squad is embracing a fresh chapter and feels no lasting effects from the club's recent challenges at Molineux.

Peixoto took over from Rob Edwards last month and inherited a group that ended bottom of the Premier League with just three wins.

After a 3-0 victory over La Liga side Racing Santander in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, the Portuguese coach said belief has returned to the team.

"It is a new beginning," he told BBC Radio WM. "The past stays behind us, so now we will create a present and future for the club.

"The players are dedicated to our style of play and our training approach, and we have faith that we will deliver a strong season with solid work as the players grow in confidence."

This marks the 46-year-old's first senior coaching job outside Portugal after leading Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in the Primeira Liga last season.

He wants his Wolves side to play in an organized and attacking manner, and he feels the squad is adjusting well to his approach.

Wolves open their campaign on Friday in an EFL Cup match against League Two side Port Vale before starting their Championship season seven days later at home to Blackburn.

"From the first day I spoke with them and trained alongside them, every player has worked hard to meet what I ask," Peixoto said.

"The team is developing physically and tactically while gaining a better grasp of the game.

"We are at a solid level but must keep improving step by step."

Wolves signed striker Raul Jimenez and full-back Kieran Trippier before Edwards departed, with winger Rafiki Said the only addition since Peixoto arrived.

Peixoto expects further transfer business before the window closes on 1 September and knows exactly where the squad needs reinforcement.

"Moves will take place," he said. "There are some delays due to the World Cup, but we understand our requirements and have a clear plan."

"Right now I must work with the players available and I am pleased with them. The group trains well, shows strong effort and maintains good spirit.

"It is vital to assess these players and find ways to strengthen the team, yet I remain content with the current squad."
