Ex-world champion boxer Joe Cordina has rejected accusations of attacking a man near a fuel station, according to court reports.

The 34-year-old, along with another individual, faced charges stemming from an event in the Pentwyn area of Cardiff during February.

At Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, he entered not guilty pleas to a pair of assault by beating counts.

He stood in the dock with Jamie O'Brien, 32, of Pentwyn, who also faces assault charges tied to the same matter.

During the brief session, O'Brien offered no plea.

Earlier proceedings indicated the alleged offenses involved the two men acting against one another.

Cordina's lawyer, Nadeem Majid, noted that the additional assault charge arises from a single ongoing event.

Judge Charlotte Murphy allowed Cordina unconditional bail ahead of his trial scheduled for October 13.

The matter involving O'Brien was postponed to August 26.

As a past super-featherweight titleholder, Cordina had plans to compete for the WBO lightweight crown in the United States on July 4.

Yet he announced via social media that his request for a US visa had been denied.
