Spain's win against Argentina in Sunday's World Cup final pulled a peak audience of 15.8 million on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The BBC secured a 64% share of total TV viewing for the contest, averaging 13.9 million viewers as Ferran Torres scored in extra time to deliver Spain's second World Cup title.

The match was streamed 11.1 million times via BBC iPlayer along with the BBC Sport site and app, which included 2.4 million UHD streams on iPlayer.

BBC Sport live text updates on the website and app recorded more than 18.8 million views, of which 14.2 million came from the UK, offering supporters the freshest reports, breakdowns and match developments.

Saturday's third-place match between England and France drew a peak audience of 11.8 million on BBC One and iPlayer, averaging 10.8 million viewers.

Over the entire World Cup the BBC achieved an overall reach of 42.8 million through television.

Viewers streamed World Cup matches 237 million times on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, more than twice the figure from the 2022 tournament, while football led BBC iPlayer activity as World Cup material made up 33% of all streams during the event.

In addition the BBC Sport website and app welcomed 57.2 million unique visitors, with users accessing BBC Sport material 1.7 billion times; match highlights from the World Cup were streamed 67.3 million times and the new BBC Football YouTube channel produced 100 million views across varied content.

On social platforms, clips, interviews, analysis, press conferences and fan highlights generated 2.55 billion video views.

The most viewed clip of the tournament was Egypt winger Mostafa Zico's post-match interview after Egypt exited against Argentina, achieving 77 million views on TikTok alone.
