Bayern Munich tend to respond strongly after two matches without a victory. This holds especially true in a high-profile Saturday evening encounter against capable domestic sides that frequently draw out their strongest displays. The preceding week brought setbacks both at home and abroad during away fixtures. They began poorly in each, shipping the league's quickest goal at Augsburg and trailing 1-0 inside 90 seconds against Viking in Stavanger.

Vincent Kompany stayed low-key on the Allianz Arena sideline, remaining nearly still on the bench while his side netted repeatedly against RB Leipzig. This had no connection to any frustration from those sluggish openings. Sporting director Max Eberl, who took the post-match press duties, noted that the coach had been unwell, alongside an ongoing hip issue that slowed his movement from the dressing room to the touchline.

It proved fortunate he avoided rising for each goal, as soreness would have followed the next day. Kicker described the match as a training exercise at the Allianz Arena. Without goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt's solid showing, Leipzig's record 7-0 defeat to Manchester City over three years prior would have been eclipsed. The result was one-sided.

For Leipzig and coach Martin Demichelis, a former Bayern player, the 6-1 loss delivered a clear message. Coverage reflected disappointment that a potential rival offered minimal opposition. Yet it also highlighted Bayern at their sharpest, motivated by any perceived threat and determined to dismiss it.

The performance cleared built-up irritation from several sources: defending Manuel Neuer after his Augsburg mistake, wasted opportunities in that match, the first-half setback against Viking, a late equalizer after a comeback, and Michael Olise's red card. Eberl had labeled Viking captain Zlatko Tripic a scumbag for provoking the French player into two quick bookings, the second after Olise lobbed the ball at him and forced a dive.

The release came immediately. Harry Kane tested Vandevoordt early, but the respite proved brief. Luis Diaz raced onto a Joshua Kimmich pass to slice through the Leipzig backline and open the scoring in the 12th minute. The Colombian set up a second with a fine ball for Aleksandar Pavlovic before the half-hour, following a fluid team sequence that allowed Olise to finish with authority.

The display was masterful. Pavlovic's goal stemmed from Kane shifting play left from deep, roughly 10 to 15 meters outside his own box. In the second half Diaz took over, collecting a Kane pass to cut inside and bend a shot into the far corner, then completing his hat-trick with a long run from a central position. His first league goals since August arrived with clear hunger.

This Diaz form will matter against Arsenal with Olise suspended, and Bayern's determined approach will carry over as ideal preparation, even if Leipzig proved more accommodating than anticipated. No one in Munich has overlooked their opening loss last season, when Arsenal raised their level for a 3-1 win at the Emirates. Eberl noted the memories and the intent to channel them into energy for Wednesday.

The league phase offers room for both sides to advance safely in the top eight, yet assessing current standing remains valuable. Though not a must-win scenario, the Leipzig result could ignite Diaz's campaign, as Kimmich observed his value in runs beyond the defense more than Kane, Olise or midfielders.

Kimmich added that Diaz posted strong figures last season with 22 goals and 17 assists across the Bundesliga and Champions League, and the pattern resumes now. Early benchmarks count, and after Leipzig comes Arsenal.

Talking points

Bayern topped the table after the weekend, ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference, following Freiburg's first defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Julian Schuster's side led early at the BayArena through Derry Scherhant, but Leverkusen responded in a strong home test. Ibrahim Maza equalized quickly and assisted Patrick Schick's winner in the second half. Schick has now scored in each of his first six matches. Maza told DAZN his escape from defenders echoed his Berlin youth, improvising in tight spaces.

Niclas Fullkrug matches Schick atop the scoring list after a fifth straight goal, with his brace helping Werder Bremen recover from 2-0 down to draw with Paderborn. It marked the third consecutive game Werder erased a two-goal deficit for at least a point. Coach Daniel Thioune praised how the Germany striker elevates teammates and staff, always willing to contribute extra in the dressing room.

Dortmund's goalless draw with Union in Berlin marked their second straight scoreless outing, while Stuttgart sit in the bottom six after a Hamburg loss despite many chances. Deniz Undav admitted the side is not at a top level currently.
