US Senator Mitch McConnell was discharged from the hospital on Monday after a recent fall, yet he remains without medical clearance to return to his Senate responsibilities, according to an update posted on his official website.

The Office of the Attending Physician noted that McConnell is not medically approved to exit the rehabilitation facility and resume office duties at this time.

Since leaving hospital care, the senator has followed a rigorous regimen of physical therapy and rehabilitation with multiple daily sessions aimed at restoring strength and lowering the chance of additional falls, the office added.

This latest update, McConnell's second since the incident, arrives just ahead of Kentucky's annual Fancy Farm picnic, an event that usually includes addresses from state politicians.

McConnell expressed his fondness for the gathering, noting there is no place he would rather be on the first Saturday in August than among the people of western Kentucky enjoying pork and mutton.

Senator Hospitalized Following Fall

McConnell entered the hospital in June after suffering a fall. He contracted polio during childhood, a condition the attending physician described as an ongoing influence on his mobility.

In his first statement issued on July 13, McConnell indicated he would skip the Senate's return to session while recovering from the fall that caused brief unconsciousness along with pneumonia.

During his hospital stay he developed pneumonia and received antibiotic treatment, according to a separate statement from his office citing the attending physician.

Kentucky Shifts to Strong Republican Support

McConnell highlighted the importance of the Fancy Farm picnic, observing that over his 42 years of attendance the state has undergone a notable political change.

When he first attended more than four decades ago, he recalled, Fancy Farm was an uncommon spot for a Republican, but times have shifted dramatically.

Western Kentucky has turned into a stronghold of Republican support, he said, adding that he regrets missing the event this year while sending best wishes to the St. Jerome community for a successful picnic.

McConnell closed by thanking supporters for their ongoing messages and expressing his eagerness to return to both the Senate and Kentucky soon.
