The vessel hit by Ukraine in the Caspian Sea on Saturday carried drone and missile components destined for Iran, according to Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk in a Sunday interview with N12.

Iran asserted the ship transported civilian goods and accused Ukraine of attempting to broaden the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky detailed the strike on Saturday via X, noting Ukraine executed long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea, including vessels tied to military cargo shipments involving Iran.

Korniychuk noted this marked another instance of Ukraine striking such military targets, with more expected, as Ukraine regards these shipments as valid military objectives.

Israel and Ukraine confront the same adversary, Korniychuk added, positioned on opposite sides of one hostile axis.

Trump Claims Russia Avoids Weapons Sales to Iran

The development follows a recent post by US President Donald Trump on Truth Social on Friday, where he stated Russian President Vladimir Putin assured him Russia was not providing weapons to Iran.
