Britain on Tuesday called in Iran's highest-ranking diplomat in London regarding claims that Tehran directed proxy organizations to stage assaults in multiple European locations over the past few months.

Charge d'Affaires Ali Nasimfar was summoned to the Foreign Office because the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force allegedly instructed a group to conduct strikes in Europe from March through May, according to a British Foreign Office statement issued on Tuesday.

Officials named the proxy organization the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right. Describing the actions as completely unacceptable, the foreign ministry noted that despite prior alerts Iran's intelligence agencies have continued hostile operations and have instead escalated their harmful conduct.

The Iranian embassy in London was unavailable for immediate comment outside normal working hours. Iran, currently engaged in conflict with the United States and Israel, has long rejected accusations of employing proxy forces.

Tehran on Tuesday rejected the move, stating that the IRGC forms an official component of Iran's military and charging Britain with breaching international law through action against a state body.

The Quds Force serves as the IRGC's external branch. The United States has already classified the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
