Two killed and 19 injured in Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine

Russia launched an assault on Ukraine on Saturday using missiles and drones that killed two people and wounded 19 others officials reported as Kyiv waits for air defense supplies amid shortages that have left it vulnerable.

Eleven people were wounded in the capital Kyiv by an attack that used ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones.

Civilian infrastructure was struck even before the air raid alert sounded President Volodymyr Zelensky said with rescuers active at the scene.

A missile strike later hit the port city of Odessa killing two and wounding one while a drone struck a civilian site in eastern Kharkiv wounding seven.

Ukraine remains critically low on munitions for Patriot systems and has struggled to counter ballistic missiles traveling at high speeds over the past month.

It has appealed to allies for more supplies and urged Europe to collaborate on an anti-ballistic defense system.

US President Donald Trump said this week Ukraine will receive a license to produce its own Patriot interceptor missiles.

Zelensky pushes for fast progress on defense efforts

Following the attack Zelensky called for those projects to advance as swiftly as possible.

Russia has increased strikes on the capital in recent weeks with more than 60 people killed so far this month in Kyiv and surrounding areas.

Kyiv has responded by targeting Russian military logistics in occupied southern Ukraine to cut off fuel and munitions through strikes on vessels and trucks.

Ukraine drone forces chief Robert Brovdi said units struck 21 fuel tanker vessels in the Sea of Azov overnight along with seven other ships bringing the weekly total to 76 vessels hit.
