Qatari negotiators have traveled to Tehran to assist in finalizing an agreement between the United States and Iran, according to a source who spoke with CNN on Sunday morning.

After President Trump's Saturday statement that an accord would likely be completed within 24 hours, Qatari mediators working with Washington have arrived in the Iranian capital to support the effort.

Should a memorandum of understanding be reached between the two capitals, it would launch a fresh 60-day phase of discussions on carrying out the framework, US officials indicated.

Original plans for an in-person ceremony were abandoned over logistical hurdles. The document will instead be executed electronically to prevent setbacks that might stall progress.

Pakistan is arranging for the electronic signing within the next 24 hours and technical-level meetings the following week, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, however, rejected reports that the Islamabad memorandum would occur on Sunday, state media reported.

Comparison of this deal to the JCPOA

Trump stressed that the new arrangement differs sharply from the Obama-era accord, which he called an easy path to a nuclear weapon that Iran could have obtained six years ago and used long before now.

My agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, a wall to no nuclear weapon, Trump said. In fact, they no longer want a nuclear weapon, nor will they have one, either through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement.

He added that no money will exchange hands, seeking to distinguish the deal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Trump accused former president Barack Obama of paying hundreds of billions of dollars to Iran, including 1.7 billion dollars in cash.
