BARCELONA, Spain - Florentino Pérez claimed another four-year term as Real Madrid president by prevailing in the club's elections held on Sunday.

"We will continue our efforts to ensure Real Madrid secures additional trophies," he stated to backers during a late celebration after the club's broadcast outlet confirmed his win over rival Enrique Riquelme.

Officials have not yet released the full tally of votes.

The outcome positions Pérez to recall Portuguese manager José Mourinho for another period at the club. Mourinho guided the team from 2010 to 2013 and appeared in campaign materials supporting Pérez.

Pérez expressed pride that Mourinho, among the top coaches globally, is prepared to return.

He also outlined plans to acquire Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté and Inter Milan fullback Denzel Dumfries, while promising a major new signing exceeding 150 million euros to be revealed soon.

The 79-year-old has presided over Madrid in two stretches since 2000. During his tenure the club captured seven of its 15 European Cup titles.

Forbes has ranked Madrid as the world's most valuable club for five straight years.

Pérez, who heads a global construction firm, faced no opponent for the presidency in more than two decades. He stood unopposed in votes set for 2009, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025.

Recent challenges have tested Pérez. His Super League proposal collapsed, and Madrid ended two campaigns without silverware despite signing Kylian Mbappé.

Critics also questioned his suggestion last year to sell a stake in the club to outside investors, which would end 124 years of member ownership.

Riquelme offered congratulations and accepted the outcome while hinting at a future bid. Pérez's mandate extends to 2030.

"This marks a start rather than a finish for us," Riquelme noted. "Madrid will not wait another two decades before the next election."

The 37-year-old renewable energy executive entered the race after Pérez called for challengers during a press event last month. Riquelme gained support from former players including Raúl González, Fernando Hierro and Iker Casillas, and vowed to pursue Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, though the club and player agent ruled out a move this summer.

Nearly 98,000 members were eligible to participate. Voting occurred at the club's basketball arena since the Bernabéu Stadium hosts an event tied to Pope Leo XIV's visit to Spain.
