A marine drone similar to those deployed in the Ukraine conflict self-detonated on Friday near an oil terminal inside Romania's Black Sea port of Constanta, producing no injuries or damage, the national defense ministry confirmed.

Officials ordered the immediate evacuation of the port zone, issued shelter warnings to communities along the Romanian coastline, and sent two helicopters aloft to search for any remaining devices, Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat stated.

"We now recognize the possibility of further self-detonations and have cleared the area in case additional drones are present," Arafat said.

"We are not panicking; the measures are purely preventative."

The incident follows by one week a Russian drone that struck an apartment building in the southeastern city of Galati near the Ukrainian frontier, wounding two residents and marking the first such strike on a populated NATO location during the conflict.

Romania belongs to both NATO and the European Union, shares a 650-kilometer border with Ukraine, and has recorded 28 Russian drone incursions into its airspace since Moscow began targeting Ukrainian Danube ports, the defense ministry reported.

Fragments from Ukrainian drones have likewise been found on Romanian soil.
