Malaysia Promises Swift Deportation of Any Israelis Found Amid Tech Hub Inquiry

The Southeast Asian nation maintains no formal ties with Israel and bars holders of Israeli passports from entry absent special governmental permission.

Malaysia announced it will promptly expel any Israeli nationals discovered on its soil, as stated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday. This comes as officials probe claims that individuals holding dual citizenship from Israel are involved in a tech-oriented community located in Johor's Forest City.

"We will not tolerate this situation," Anwar declared to the press. "Given our non-recognition of Israel, any Israeli nationals identified will face immediate deportation."

The focus of the inquiry is Network School, a shared living space for entrepreneurs and remote workers founded by ex-Coinbase leader Balaji Srinivasan. Situated in the Forest City project supported by China near Singapore, the initiative attracted notice following an online promotional clip.

Residents in the video speak of residing on "a man-made island close to Singapore," with Srinivasan noting the aim to create "Silicon Valley beyond Silicon Valley."

The clip sparked online backlash, including comments labeling it as cult-like in its operations and recruitment.

Malaysia Prohibits Entry to Israeli Citizens

The Johor authorities requested a national-level probe into the community's operations and participants' nationalities.

Malaysia's immigration officials checked 266 foreigners from 40 nations at the location, confirming all had proper documents. Further checks on identities and activities continue.

Anwar directed reviews of the project's commercial aspects, such as licenses, housing setups, and land usage, with strict measures for any breaches.

Malaysia lacks diplomatic links with Israel and restricts Israeli passport entry without approval. Dual nationals might enter via other passports in certain instances.

The government prioritizes security and its stance against Israel, with the prime minister upholding strong support for Palestinians and connections to Hamas amid the Gaza situation.
