US Senator Mitch McConnell, 84, has spent several weeks in the hospital after admission in mid-June, while his office has offered only minimal details on his status.

He entered care on June 14, and his spokesman offered no further explanation beyond stating that the Kentucky Republican was receiving strong medical attention.

McConnell, 84, previously served as Senate majority leader and guided Republican bills and nominations through Congress.

On Thursday, his office stated that the senator values the support during his hospital recovery and continues to improve while coordinating with staff on Kentucky and Senate issues during the congressional recess.

Additionally, McConnell's wife traveled to China for diplomatic and charitable events three days after his admission and remains overseas.

What details exist about McConnell's undisclosed condition?

Two neighbors informed Reuters that they observed the senator on a stretcher being placed into an ambulance outside his Washington, DC residence on June 14 near 9 a.m.

Emergency responders also noted performing CPR on an unconscious person experiencing cardiac arrest at McConnell's address, based on dispatcher recordings reviewed by The New York Times.

McConnell's representatives have not confirmed any cardiac incident, and the senator is not identified in the recordings.

His current hospital stay continues a lengthy medical record that includes childhood polio and an eight-day admission in February for flu-like symptoms.
