Arab News reported from Pakistan that Mohsin Naqvi stated late Saturday he had arrived in Tehran carrying messages from the nation's military leadership and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed to Iran's supreme leader. Coverage indicated Islamabad is stepping up its mediation role between the US and Iran.

The Pakistani effort unfolds alongside parallel contacts with Lebanon's army leadership. This positions Islamabad in simultaneous roles advancing regional stability with Iran while expanding its footprint across the Middle East.

Pakistan has traditionally focused on South Asian matters, chiefly relations with India, alongside Central Asian issues such as those in Afghanistan. It enjoys positive connections with both China and the United States and holds nuclear capabilities.

Yet the Iran channel signals Islamabad's expanding engagement in Middle Eastern affairs. The capital has pursued stronger security partnerships with Saudi Arabia in recent times.

Reasons for dispatching Naqvi to this meeting round were not specified, though they may tie to the army chief's concurrent discussions with his Lebanese opposite number. Ahead of the visit, Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency noted that Naqvi carried a significant communication from Pakistan's defense chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

Iran and the US Continue Clashes Across the Gulf

Naqvi addressed the situation in remarks to Iranian outlets without providing further specifics beyond noting ongoing conversations. Pakistani reports framed the meetings against fresh strains emerging in the region.

Iran and the US have exchanged fire in the Gulf, including missile strikes by Tehran toward Kuwait. Washington appears focused on containing these incidents or minimizing their profile at present. This environment allows Pakistan to reinforce its standing as an influential intermediary.

Washington's priority centers on whether Pakistan can deliver tangible advances. President Donald Trump seeks concrete movement toward an accord, though he has signaled readiness to exercise patience if needed.

Arab News highlighted that the Pakistani official spoke in Iran shortly after US forces reported downing Iranian ballistic missiles and drones aimed at the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf partners on Friday, while also targeting select Islamic Republic coastal radar installations in reply.

Restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz

Whether Pakistan can secure progress toward an accord is still uncertain. Islamabad continues to press for release of frozen assets. Questions also persist over how restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz might be eased.

Iran demonstrates willingness to sustain operations in the Gulf. Such actions align with prior patterns of behavior toward regional neighbors.
