Ukrainian drones struck a historic museum in Sevastopol within Russia-annexed Crimea according to local authorities on Wednesday while officials reduced nighttime train operations due to heightened air threats.

The museum honors the 1853-1856 Crimea War in which the Russian Empire faced defeat against a coalition including the Ottoman Empire.

Sevastopol's Russian-installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev announced on Telegram that the museum roof was hit without elaborating on damage or casualties.

"The enemy will pay for this sacrilege!" Razvozhayev declared in his early Wednesday post.

Crimean authorities reduced train schedules during night hours after a recent drone incident injured a train driver and killed his assistant as noted by peninsula governor Sergei Aksyonov on Telegram.

The Black Sea peninsula annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014 now faces fuel shortages from recent Ukrainian drone strikes just as the holiday season begins.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week but the offer was rejected. Following the train incident the Kremlin accused Ukraine of hindering peaceful conflict resolution efforts.

Oil hub city seeks shelter from drone attacks

In Novokuibyshevsk within Russia's Samara region a key oil hub along the Volga river hosting multiple Rosneft refineries authorities reported repelling drone attacks.

Officials advised the city's one million residents to seek shelter while public transport halted during air raid alerts according to local media.

Ongoing Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy sites have led Moscow to reduce oil output as the world's third-largest producer.

In southern Rostov region bordering Ukraine falling drone debris sparked a fire in a civilian fuel tank as stated by the regional governor on Telegram.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also reported on Telegram that the capital was repelling drone attacks.

Remote oil-producing areas including Khanty-Mansiysk Perm and Tyumen along with industrial zones Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk in the Urals issued air raid alerts thousands of kilometers from Ukraine based on local authority social media posts.
