The American President himself offered allies hope on the second day by stating that the United States had so far focused on Iran. Trump described his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart as terrific, and the latter did not rule out another encounter before the end of the summit.

Der Tagesspiegel sees Trump's renewed focus on Ukraine after Iran as a potential threat, warning that he seeks easy deals with Putin without regard for consequences for Ukraine and Europe. Lasting peace requires Europe to recognize that Putin concedes only when facing military defeat. Agreements with him prove worthless since he has broken nearly all of them. Only commitments Europe can enforce by military means if needed will hold. There is no easy path to peace.

The Tages-Anzeiger criticizes the tendency to accommodate Trump's preferences, observing that he dislikes summits due to crowds and lengthy multilateral talks. Hosts therefore keep him content by removing topics like climate change and development aid from the agenda. Everyone tolerates this behavior from the world's most powerful leader because he wields that power and must not be slighted, even when he makes false statements.

The Daily Telegraph argues that the G7 has become outdated as an institution, remaining a small club of liberal democracies that no longer represent the world's most significant powers. Proposals exist to expand membership by including nations such as Australia, South Korea, Spain, or Indonesia. Yet Saudi Arabia holds a stronger claim than these others due to its role as a key power broker and leader among Middle Eastern middle powers, despite ranking lower in economic size.
