French Foreign Minister Requests UNSC Emergency Meeting Over Israel Actions in Lebanon

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced Sunday that he requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding Israel's continuing military operation in Lebanon.

In an interview with French outlet BFMTV, Barrot remarked that nothing justifies extending Israel's military operations in Lebanon or its growing hold on Lebanese territory.

This represents a major error for Israel, he added.

Barrot's comments follow the IDF confirmation that it has taken control of Beaufort Castle in Lebanon, a site it last held before withdrawing in May 2000.

Beaufort originated as a French Crusader-period castle in the area.

Barrot Urges Peace Agreement Between Iran and US

In the same interview, Barrot also urged Iran and the US to reach a peace agreement, calling the present circumstances untenable.

We experience the effects of the Strait of Hormuz blockade daily at the pump, along with its broader influence on the global economy and the French economy, he stated. This situation must end.

He further noted that planning work has advanced on the mission to ensure freedom of movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
