The European Union has imposed sanctions on five Iranian judges accused of human rights abuses, along with a prominent member of a cyber group said to assist the regime in censoring information, according to the EU Council on Friday.

Nima Salehi, founder of the Ashiyane cyber group in Iran, was sanctioned by the Council. The group is reported to work closely with the EU-listed Cyber Police known as FATA and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Names of the judges were not provided in the statement.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated on X that as Tehran ramps up its internal suppression, the EU will keep those accountable responsible.

So far, the European Union has targeted 269 individuals and 53 entities with sanctions.

United States Expands Sanctions on Network Linked to Iranian Financier Zanjani

On Friday, the United States revealed additional sanctions targeting nine companies and four people connected to the already sanctioned Iranian financier Babak Zanjani, due to their attempts to bypass US restrictions.

The US Treasury Department indicated that these new measures focus on Zanjani's operations in Iran under the Dot One conglomerate, plus several entities in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates that aided his sanctioned digital asset exchanges, including key executives.

Treasury noted that Zanjani used a wide range of assets including financial services, digital asset trading, gold and gem production, and infrastructure projects to launder money and transfer funds secretly for Iran.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remarked that the Iranian regime faces significant economic costs for its actions, with the rial hitting new lows and inflation rising sharply. Treasury will keep restricting access for corrupt elites and their supporters.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control first sanctioned Zanjani and his two main digital asset projects, Zedcex Exchange Limited and Zedxion Exchange Limited, back in January.
