European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas revealed on Monday that the bloc has approved sanctions against a number of Israeli settlers accused of violent acts toward Palestinians in the West Bank.

The measures simultaneously impose penalties on prominent Hamas leaders.

"We have finally shifted from impasse to implementation," Kallas stated. "Extremist actions and violence will face repercussions."

Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar condemned the decision, arguing that the EU is "targeting Israeli individuals and entities solely for their political positions, with no factual grounding."

"Equally indefensible is the EU's false equivalence between Israeli citizens and Hamas militants - a gross moral distortion."

Just last week, EU envoy to Israel Michael Mann indicated that sanctions on violent West Bank settlers were advancing, thanks to shifting dynamics in Hungary.

"Brussels has long prepared extra measures against radical settlers in the West Bank, but one member's opposition held them back."

"It's uncertain if this stance has fully reversed, yet the momentum points that way," Mann remarked at the event.

EU allocates €6 million to aid Palestinian victims of settler extremism

The Palestinian Authority recently disclosed an upcoming EU initiative to assist those affected by settler violence in the West Bank.

"Working alongside the government, the European Union will roll out a program aiding victims of settler terrorism," declared PA Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa.

An EU representative's office source informed Agence France-Presse that funding will bolster civil society groups with gear like community fences against settler assaults, plus on-site security.
