Trump Weighs Options Against Rivals if Democrats Renew Impeachment Push

US President Donald Trump indicated during a Thursday interview on Newsmax that he could launch criminal inquiries or release unfavorable details about former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden if Democrats attempt to impeach him for a third time.

Trump noted he had previously chosen not to pursue such actions against political opponents but hinted he might change course if Democrats win control of Congress in the November midterms and move forward with another impeachment.

"I could have done numbers on Hillary Clinton," Trump said. "I could have done numbers on Bill Clinton. I do like Bill Clinton. I could have done numbers on Barack Hussein Obama. Still could, I still could, I could do big numbers if I wanted to."

"I'm talking about go after them criminally, or I could have done something having to do with their reputations [and] destroyed their reputations," he added.

Trump Claims Possession of Damaging Details on Democratic Figures

Trump asserted that his administration holds potentially damaging information on Clinton, Obama, and Biden, though he offered no specifics or supporting evidence.

"We have a lot of information about Hillary. We have a lot of information about Barack Hussein Obama. We have a lot of information on Sleepy Joe Biden," he stated.

When asked if he planned to act on the information, Trump left the door open. "Well, I mean, I guess not. Probably not. But I think if they impeach me again, you know, again," he replied. "Things could get ugly," the host interjected.

Trump made similar comments at an Oval Office event on October 7, noting he had avoided targeting opponents out of respect for the office.

Democrats Consider Next Moves Ahead of Midterm Elections

The comments arrive as Democrats aim to retake Congress in the upcoming midterms, which could lead to new oversight of the Trump administration.

Democratic leaders have not confirmed plans for impeachment even if they regain the House. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries indicated last month that the option remains open but undecided, while House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar listed it outside the party's main priorities.

Trump, impeached twice in his first term and acquitted both times by the Senate, questioned the basis for any third effort. "The only thing they can impeach me for is making our country really strong," he said. He also suggested another impeachment could help Republicans politically, claiming prior attempts had strengthened his support. "And I [have] become good at anti-impeachment. I call it the anti-impeachment movement," he remarked.
