Xpeng Australia has verified the GX flagship SUV will reach the local market, although timing for its biggest model - positioned against rivals including the Zeekr 9X - is still undecided.

At the Melbourne Brand Day event, Xpeng head of international development Alex Tang told media including CarExpert the GX is confirmed for Australia, with more specifics pending.

"I can confirm the GX is coming as our current flagship. We just launched it in China where market reception has been strong and sales figures are very strong," Mr Tang said.

"Our China team is working hard to scale production and meet demand, yet this vehicle will serve as our global flagship."

The GX will follow several other models arriving in Australia across the next six months, beginning with a refreshed G6 SUV then the X9 people mover, L03 small SUV, G9L large SUV and L05 SUV.

Built on Xpeng's SEPA 3.0 Physical AI 800V platform, the GX measures 5265mm long, exceeding a Range Rover Sport in length. It features a 3115mm wheelbase and offers a six-seat configuration in China.

This positions it above the G9L, scheduled for November 2026 arrival and sized at 5120mm long with a 3100mm wheelbase.

In China the GX comes as either a pure EV or an EREV.

The GX EV opens at ¥279,800 ($59,059), ¥10,000 ($2111) below the base GX EREV and aligns closely with rivals such as the Li Auto L6 not offered in Australia.

GX EREV pricing begins at ¥289,800 ($61,141) for the entry model, undercutting competitors including the Li Auto L8, Aito M8 and Denza N9 within China.

Pricing for Australia is still unknown, where Xpeng's current top model is the dual-motor AWD X9 electric people mover at $109,900 before on-road costs, and where the Zeekr 9X may launch around $110-120,000.

In China the GX EV offers single-motor RWD across three grades beneath a dual-motor AWD top variant.

RWD GX EVs employ a 270kW/465Nm motor paired with a 91.9kWh battery for a claimed 665km CLTC range and 0-100km/h time of 6.97 seconds.

The AWD version adds a 160kW/230Nm front motor for combined 430kW and 695Nm, achieving a claimed 0-100km/h sprint in 4.7 seconds. A larger 110kWh battery supports a claimed 750km CLTC range.

The EREV uses a 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine plus 63.3kWh battery for combined 370kW and 695Nm and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.0 seconds.

The same powertrain appears across four EREV grades in China, all with standard AWD, a claimed 430km CLTC electric-only range and total combined range of 1585km CLTC from a 60L tank.

Both EREV and EV GX models in China support ultra-fast charging, reaching 10-80 per cent in as little as 12 minutes.

The cabin includes an 8.8-inch digital cluster and 17.3-inch floating centre touchscreen. Every variant has an 8.0-inch rear control screen, with an optional 21.4-inch entertainment display.

Nappa leather is standard, the heated and ventilated driver seat offers 12-way power adjustment, and the front passenger seat includes a heated leg rest.

Second-row captain chairs are power adjustable with folding tables and a 180mm-wide aisle to the third row that folds flat. Audio comes via a 23-speaker system, with a 33-speaker option available.

Three-layer Galaxy ambient lighting covers the roof and footwells.

Standard ADAS features include traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert and safe exit warning, plus 11 airbags covering all rows and ISOFIX anchors in the second and third rows.

Other standard items include a digital smartphone key and 21-inch alloy wheels, with 22-inch wheels optional. Buyers may select from six exterior and three interior colours.
