Xpeng Australia has committed to fulfilling customer cashback promises for cars purchased via its former independent distributor, TrueEV, in response to grievances from buyers awaiting sums reaching $5000.

A $3000 cashback promotion launched in November 2025 targeted purchasers of the Xpeng G6 mid-size electric SUV, positioned against rivals including the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X.

The incentive rose to $5000 for orders placed before December 31, 2025, yet numerous buyers have not received their payments.

Xpeng Australia, now run directly by the Chinese manufacturer, confirmed it would assume local distribution duties from TrueEV starting April 1, 2026.

In an official statement the company pledged to resolve any remaining cashback obligations owed to customers.

"First and foremost, it was a promotional offer that was through the TrueEV distributor, through the TrueEV dealers at that time," said Xpeng Australia national service development manager Brenton Dalton.

"For those customers, the first point of call is trying to clarify and trying to get rectification through the existing TrueEV dealers or through head office.

"And if that has not been successful for that customer? Absolutely, on a case-by-case basis, we will get the documentation we need. Once we have got that evidence, if that customer is entitled to it, absolutely, we will pay it on a goodwill basis.

"Any customer that is out there with an X on the front of the bonnet, our commitment would really be to support them."

TrueEV introduced the Xpeng brand to Australia in 2024 under a five-year distribution agreement with the Chinese automaker. It established the brand's initial Australian dealership in Mascot, Sydney, during December 2024.

There are now 14 Xpeng locations along Australia's east coast, with an additional site set to open in Melbourne shortly.

Xpeng's decision to take over Australian distribution less than 18 months later has led to a Federal Court dispute between the parties regarding termination of the original agreement.

TrueEV was directed to provide more than $1 million in security for costs before July 31, and the Federal Court trial is set to begin on October 6, 2026.

Australian Xpeng dealers continue normal operations, with 224 units of the G6 delivered in the first half of 2026. Order books for the updated G6 opened earlier this month.

Due in showrooms before the end of July, the refreshed G6 carries a $3000 lower base price than the previous model, with a four-grade lineup starting from $51800 before on-road costs.

Besides minor styling updates, the revision introduces a larger 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen (up from 14.9 inches), quicker battery charging, and a WLTP driving range of 480km for the entry-level variants.

The company intends to introduce the larger five-seat G9 electric SUV and the seven-seat X9 electric people mover to Australian showrooms before the end of 2026.
