Raised in the Metro Detroit region, I was surrounded by endless car shows showcasing Detroit muscle cars and designs from the jet age. Two events elevated that exposure further: Eyes on Design and the Concours d'Elegance of America, where I later served as chairman. While these gatherings carry prestige and a formal atmosphere, the vehicles displayed represented an elevated experience for someone growing up near Detroit. The variety of hood ornaments added another layer.

I recall encountering my first donut chaser, the Goddess of Speed ornament from vintage Packard hoods, along with an explanation of its background from a fellow attendee. That moment sparked ongoing curiosity. Whenever a show features additional hood ornaments, I find myself examining them closely.
