Numerous automotive brands currently offer vehicles in the U.S., with many more available elsewhere, and fresh manufacturers continue to appear regularly. China alone has introduced four new cars daily this year, often from companies that did not exist previously. Yet, following the natural cycle, just as many automakers have faded away. We have already explored favorite cars from extinct marques, and now the question is which defunct brand you believe should return.

You may choose a manufacturer that ceased recently, or one gone for a hundred years. It could be a firm that built only a few cars or one responsible for millions. Suggestions of companies that failed before and might fail again are welcome. All that is needed is some creative thinking.

Bring Back Tatra!

My pick is Tatra. Yes, the company still builds impressive heavy trucks. However, three decades have passed since its last passenger car, and the final truly intriguing model was the 603 from 1953. While that car has appeal, the pre-war streamliners such as the T77 and T87 stand out most, and a revived Tatra should embrace that spirit. Those early rear-engine designs were unusual, striking, and remarkably aerodynamic, even shaping the original Volkswagen Beetle. A modern version could deliver real excitement.

Concepts like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the canceled Lightyear One offer hints of this direction, yet a new Tatra would be far more distinctive. It need not be fully electric. Picture a contemporary Tatra streamliner powered by a rear-mounted hybrid system. That would be outstanding!
