Bentley recently unveiled the updated Flying Spur, the newest iteration of its flagship luxury sedan with an entry price exceeding $250,000. The refresh includes an optional $34,000 Naim audio upgrade and revives the Flying Spur S variant, which delivers performance and handling improvements akin to the Continental GT S but in a four-door configuration. The standout update is the adoption of the Continental's single-unit headlight design, ending the sedan's prior quad-headlight layout.

Most enthusiasts will likely welcome the change, as the refreshed Continental GT and Flying Spur both maintain strong visual appeal. Any potential critique could target the grille sensor positioning or the traditional hood ornament seeming mismatched on a contemporary body. For longtime Bentley loyalists, however, this update concludes a 64-year design tradition on the Flying Spur.

The decision is a positive step. Past design choices from decades ago should not dictate modern vehicles if they clash with current aesthetics. Although working within limits can spark creativity, today's cars already contend with many constraints, so historical elements should appear only when they truly enhance the overall look, such as skipping unnecessary fake grilles on electric models.

While some drivers still object to higher-mounted infotainment screens for improved visibility, many will likely agree here.
