Toyota filed a trademark for Camry Apex.
That could hint at a Camry-based Apex model like the Corolla Apex Edition.
Expect visual and suspension upgrades with no power improvements.

A trademark application uncovered by CarBuzz points to Toyota developing a more dynamic version of its current Camry sedan. Filed on June 30, 2026, the Camry Apex mark is pending at the USPTO and covers automobiles along with their structural parts.

While not among Toyota's best-known performance labels, the Corolla Apex Edition debuted for 2021 and carried over into 2022 before the arrival of the GR Corolla ended its run in 2023.

Toyota capped the first-year Apex Edition at 6,000 units, of which just 120 came with a six-speed manual and the remainder used a continuously variable transmission. Production figures for 2022 remain unknown.

What's An Apex?

If the Camry Apex follows the Corolla formula, powertrain changes are unlikely. The current hybrid system rated at 225 horsepower (or 232 horsepower with all-wheel drive) would stay the same.

The Corolla Apex retained its standard 169-hp four-cylinder while adding stiffer coil springs for a lower stance, revised shocks, new jounce dampers, and unique electronic power steering calibration.

Although unusual on a hybrid, the Corolla Apex also included a cat-back exhaust with a stainless steel tip. Given the new Camry's frequent engine start-stop behavior, this could produce an engaging note.

Toyota displayed a more aggressive Camry concept at last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas, so the trademark may signal that a production version is in the works.

Motor1's Take: A trademark alone does not confirm a production vehicle, yet Toyota has already shown interest in a livelier Camry. We would rather see TRD or Gazoo Racing upgrades that incorporate the RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid powertrain for stronger acceleration. Such a model would make a stronger successor to the discontinued V6 Camry.
