More than a year has passed since Toyota confirmed development of a torquier GR Corolla, raising questions about whether the GRMN badge would appear. Our forecast proved accurate, and the Gazoo Racing Meister of the Nürburgring has now launched officially. While it avoids a complete overhaul of the GR Corolla, the new model delivers gains in every key area.

The engine discussion begins with the turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder, which retains its 300-horsepower output yet increases torque from 295 to 302 pound-feet (410 Newton-meters). Images of the Japanese-spec version show a slightly higher figure of 306 lb-ft (415 Nm) for that market.

The added performance from the G16E-GTS engine, also used in the GR and GRMN Yaris, stems from insights gained during hydrogen-engine testing on the GR Corolla race car. Beyond the higher peak torque, midrange delivery improves as well. An intercooler spray system added to the GRMN maintains ideal temperatures during hard use for consistent output.

The GRMN Elevates The Corolla

Mirroring the earlier Morizo Edition, the GRMN Corolla removes the rear seats to cut 66 pounds (30 kilograms) versus the standard GR. The aerodynamic package, influenced by the hydrogen race car, includes a five-way adjustable rear wing. The aggressive body kit adds hood and front fender ducts plus front side spoilers.

The GR Corolla uses 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, but the GRMN switches to wider 245/40 ZR18 Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber on 18-inch 10-spoke forged wheels in matte bronze. These wheels carry GR badging rather than the Toyota emblem, supporting the push to establish Gazoo Racing as an independent sub-brand.

Toyota updated the suspension with new front and rear monotube shock absorbers. The all-wheel-drive system and electric power steering were also recalibrated to sharpen track behavior and deliver what the company describes as the ultimate hot hatch.

The GRMN Corolla Becomes A Two-Seat Model

Deleting the rear seats is not the only interior change. North American models receive semi-bucket sport seats, while Japan and Australia get a full bucket driver seat offering greater lateral support. Carbon fiber appears on the passenger side of the dashboard, developed and produced in-house. The door trim and shift knob receive an Alumite Red finish for added visual distinction.

Production numbers remain undisclosed, yet the serial-number plate above the manual shifter indicates limited availability. The three-digit format suggests a cap near 999 units, though exact totals may differ by market.

The GRMN Corolla targets Japan, North America, and Australia. Pricing is not yet confirmed, but a notable increase over the GR Corolla, which begins at $41,415 before options, is expected. As a 2026 model-year vehicle, the GRMN should reach U.S. showrooms in the coming months.

Motor1's Take: Toyota has logically reserved its strongest version for last, though the three-cylinder engine may still deter some buyers. A larger 2.0-liter four-cylinder is already planned for upcoming GR models. A new Corolla sedan concept has been shown, pointing to a next-generation car arriving soon, but a performance version is unlikely to appear immediately.

Toyota continues expanding Gazoo Racing into a complete performance range. The GRMN likely signals the close of the current-generation Corolla's high-performance variants, yet prospects remain strong. For now, the GRMN represents the brand's top offering for enthusiasts.
