If you have dreamed of launching rockets toward friends during actual go-kart sessions, the chance is disappearing quickly.

BattleKart, situated within the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park in Sydney, delivers the nearest sensation to piloting through a video game, yet the location will close shortly due to major redevelopment plans.

Traditional karting elements like painted lines and tyre barriers are absent. Instead, more than 80 ceiling projectors, aligned with exact precision, display the course, power-ups and obstacles straight onto the surface, allowing karts to respond instantly.

Collecting a bonus square triggers a rocket on the dashboard display. Deploying an oil slick causes trailing karts to reduce speed noticeably. The concept may appear playful until a race begins and intensity rises.

Electric karts incorporate automatic collision prevention that slows or stops vehicles nearing others, removing any helmet requirement. Participants simply board and proceed, making sessions more approachable than conventional karting.

Five modes exist: BattleRace offers Mario Kart-inspired action with items and attacks; BattleSnake recreates the classic Snake concept in reality; BattleFoot functions as kart-based soccer; BattleColour lets teams colour the space competitively; and BattleVirus requires group efforts to contain a spreading virus.

No minimum age applies, though racers must reach 145cm in height. The facility welcomes birthday celebrations, family visits, school outings and corporate events alike.

Operators report the primary hurdle involves drawing in adults who often become dedicated fans after one try.

BattleKart lies a brief walk from related site Hyper Karting, which holds Australia's longest indoor electric track, enabling easy combined visits.

Hyper Karting encountered its own difficulties earlier this year when its elevated circuit risked shutdown over council parking priorities despite attracting more than 500,000 visitors since 2021. Public backing helped secure ongoing daily operations.
