Land Rover has confirmed that an electric edition of its mid-size Range Rover Sport SUV is moving toward production.
The Range Rover Sport Electric appeared in prototype form at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Additional specifications will be shared later this year, yet the powertrain is expected to deliver as much as 542 horsepower and support a driving range exceeding 300 miles per charge.

Land Rover continues to adjust its powertrain selections across models, removing the base turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Discovery and Defender ranges while eliminating the 5.0-liter V-8 from non-Octa Defender versions. Even with these reductions, a fresh powertrain option is arriving in the form of an electric system.

Plans for an electric full-size Range Rover have existed for some time and remain active, yet the mid-size Range Rover Sport Electric has now been revealed in near-production prototype guise that closely matches current gasoline versions. Limited details on the powertrain have been shared, though the pair of electric motors ensures all-wheel-drive capability expected from the Range Rover brand. Output is reported to reach 542 hp along with 637 lb-ft of torque, per Top Gear.

Range estimates reach as high as 380 miles per charge under WLTP testing suited to European conditions. Figures using the EPA approach common in the U.S. are not yet available, though they are anticipated to exceed the 300-mile threshold.

Visual distinctions from the gasoline-powered RR Sport remain subtle. The upper grille receives a decorative plastic cover styled to resemble an open grille, while the absence of exhaust outlets at the rear serves as the main clue to its electric nature.

The Range Rover Sport emphasizes performance, highlighted by the SV variant that generates 626 hp from its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. Although the electric version carries a lower horsepower figure, it may still rival the SV for top acceleration honors. A company statement noted that the electric model possesses the ability to reshape expectations for performance SUVs.

Timing for the Range Rover Sport Electric to reach showrooms remains unclear. The full-size Range Rover Electric has faced a gradual path to market, suggesting possible similar timing shifts for this model. Still, the images shared by Land Rover display the vehicle without coverings and otherwise prepared, raising the chance of a 2027 showroom arrival.
