Mass often hinders sports cars by slowing acceleration, braking, and cornering. Yet today's electric vehicles challenge this idea through instant torque that overcomes heavy battery packs for strong launches. For the 2027 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, its 5960-pound weight becomes secondary as it claims fresh marks in acceleration, braking, and grip among SUVs.

Twin electric motors, one per axle, deliver all-wheel drive along with 1139 hp and 1106 pound-feet of torque under launch control. This setup makes the SUV extremely quick, reaching 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds to become the swiftest SUV we have tested.

The figure beats other potent electric SUVs, including the tri-motor 2025 Rivian R1S at 2.8 seconds (we await the new 1025-hp quad-motor R1S, though the 2026 R1T truck hit 2.6 seconds). The 1070-hp Lucid Gravity Dream Edition trailed by a full second to 60 mph, and the quickest Tesla Model X we tried needed 3.3 seconds. The Cayenne Turbo's time even edges supercars like the Lamborghini Revuelto and the 1064-hp Chevy Corvette ZR1 by a tenth.

The Cayenne Turbo Electric keeps its pace beyond 60 mph. It reaches 100 mph in 4.5 seconds and 150 mph in 10.1 seconds. The quarter-mile pass proves equally strong, crossing in 9.5 seconds at 146 mph. It also excels in passing with 1.1 seconds from 30 to 50 mph and 1.4 seconds from 50 to 70 mph.

The quarter-mile result stands out. It beats the tri-motor R1S by 1.6 seconds, the Gravity by 1.1 seconds, and the Revuelto by two-tenths. The electric Cayenne also crushes gas SUVs, as both the V-8 Cayenne Turbo GT and Lamborghini Urus Performante required 11.2 seconds.

The Cayenne Turbo Electric's braking matches its speed, which is notable given its nearly three-ton mass. It stops from 70 mph in 140 feet with optional $10,900 carbon-ceramic brakes. That beats the Cayenne Turbo GT by 10 feet and the Urus Performante by 12 feet. Other EVs lag far behind, with the Rivian at 173 feet and the Lucid at 163 feet. Its braking equals the Corvette ZR1 despite weighing over 2100 pounds more.

The Cayenne Turbo Electric also set the best grip mark for an SUV in Car and Driver records at 1.05 g on the skidpad. Much credit goes to Pirelli P Zero R tires and Porsche's Active Ride suspension. It tops the Urus Performante at 1.04 g and leads other large electric SUVs by wide margins, as the Rivian reached 0.80 g and the Lucid hit 0.90 g.

Such performance carries a cost: the Turbo starts at $165,350, and our test unit reached $194,600. Yet it delivers remarkable value with results that exceed supercars costing far more while offering space for five in comfort. The Turbo's record marks raise the question of what comes next.
