Formula One titleholder Lando Norris has agreed to a contract extension with McLaren that lasts until the end of 2030 at minimum. On Saturday, he expressed contentment with concluding his racing days at the team that feels like family.

The British driver, aged 26, who secured victories in the recent Hungarian and Dutch events, shared the news of the new agreement with McLaren staff at a gathering for friends and family held at the team's facility in Woking.

McLaren noted that the pact features a multi-year option potentially extending Norris's stay past 2030. He received an MCL39 chassis from the previous year after claiming the drivers' title, the first for McLaren since Lewis Hamilton's in 2008.

Addressing journalists on Saturday, Norris indicated the contract timing was perfect for sustaining team spirit and drive. He also refuted rumors circulating in the press regarding the contract's financial terms, stating that published numbers were inaccurate.

"Currently, there is no cause to consider moving elsewhere," he remarked. "I would like to spend my entire career at McLaren as I am content here and see no need for change.

"I aim to compete alongside McLaren through tough times and celebrate successes with them during strong periods. Thus, I would be thrilled to reflect at the close of my career that McLaren was my sole team."

Norris debuted in McLaren's F1 lineup in 2019, having joined in 2017 as a test and simulator driver. To date, he has secured 13 Grand Prix wins and 18 pole positions with the current constructors' champions.

"This extension provides valuable stability and strengthens our belief in our shared path forward," stated team principal Andrea Stella. "Alongside Oscar Piastri, we have not only a formidable driver duo but also one of the most cohesive units in Formula One."

Higher Earnings Yet Below Verstappen and Hamilton Levels

Media outlets have indicated the new agreement would place Norris third in Formula One salary standings, trailing only Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Hamilton.

A report estimated Norris's annual pay at approximately 60 million euros, equivalent to about 69.6 million dollars.

Grinning, he responded to queries about the earnings of four-time champion Verstappen and seven-time champion Hamilton: "I believe I deserve similar compensation."

"However, the amounts appearing online are not accurate, unfortunately. While there is an increase typical with extensions, it falls short of Lewis or Max's figures. This seems appropriate given their greater accomplishments so far.

"I am progressing toward that. I am unsure about the timing of my next contract discussion, but I hope to align with those numbers eventually. I continue to aspire to those reported figures."

Norris mentioned receiving interest from rival teams, though no formal offers were made, and switching would have seemed disloyal.

"In truth, this was the simplest choice I have faced in my career up to now," he concluded.
