The 2026 Nissan X-Trail range has grown, bringing the e-Power hybrid powertrain in more affordable front-wheel drive forms, together with a new rugged Rock Creek flagship due in Australian dealerships from September.

The Japanese brand's competitor to the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 becomes the first Nissan to carry the Rock Creek badge locally, after similar versions appeared in Japan and the US (badged Rogue), plus the larger Pathfinder SUV now being withdrawn from Australia.

"The new Nissan X-Trail Rock Creek meets strong buyer interest in a compact family SUV that looks and feels prepared for weekend adventures," said Nissan Oceania Managing Director Steve Milette.

"Rock Creek blends authentic rugged style with seven-seat versatility, adding a fresh character at the adventurous end of the X-Trail range."

Positioned against the Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid (still unconfirmed for Australia), the X-Trail Rock Creek starts at $48,315 before on-road costs, a $2435 increase over the seven-seat petrol X-Trail ST-L it is based on.

The bolder X-Trail stands out with new Baja Storm exterior paint, a $1495 option inspired by the Baja region of Mexico known for off-road racing. It includes a contrasting black roof, black exterior trim and orange accents.

These details feature a black V-motion grille, a unique lower front bumper, an orange Nissan badge and orange highlights, while the gloss-black 18-inch alloy wheels display an orange spoke accent.

Australian buyers forgo the all-terrain tyres on the US-market Rogue Rock Creek, with local specs closely following the Japanese X-Trail Rock Creek instead.

Additional touches include gloss-black mirror caps, black roof rails, Rock Creek tailgate lettering in orange and black, plus an orange Nissan badge on the tailgate.

The orange-and-black styling extends inside, with orange stitching on the standard leather seats and an orange Nissan logo on the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Beyond its distinctive appearance, the Rock Creek adds a 10.8-inch head-up display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in place of the standard 7.0-inch unit, while keeping the ST-L equipment list.

This already covers 10-way power-adjustable heated front seats, dual-zone climate control and an Around View Monitor, all introduced in an earlier X-Trail update this year.

Power remains the same 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 135kW and 244Nm, mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Combined fuel use stands at 7.4L/100km.

The Rock Creek reaches dealers together with new front-wheel drive e-Power variants.

Nissan Australia launched its distinctive e-Power hybrid system on the X-Trail, its top-selling model, in 2022, yet until now the electrified drivetrain came only with all-wheel drive.

The arrival of a front-wheel drive ST-L e-Power, priced from $45,990 before on-road costs, drops the hybrid range entry point by $3090 versus the prior starting figure.

The new front-wheel drive e-Power lineup matches the AWD grades, offering ST-L, Ti and Ti-L with matching equipment.

Nissan states the front-drive e-Power models use 11.5 per cent less fuel than AWD versions, lowering claimed combined consumption from 6.4L/100km to 5.4L/100km.

CO2 emissions drop from 139g/km to 123g/km, offering a small advantage under Australia's New Vehicle Efficiency Standard introduced in 2025.

"Bringing e-Power hybrid to front-wheel drive makes the technology available to more buyers at a lower price, along with reduced running costs," Mr Milette said.

"Hybrid power has become the preferred choice in the medium SUV segment, and a two-wheel drive e-Power X-Trail places us where demand is strongest."
