Elon Musk has assured Tesla Roadster buyers that their vehicle will handle stunts independently. Responding on X on October 17, shortly after the hypercar's reveal at SpaceX's site in McGregor, Texas, he indicated the Roadster would possess enough intelligence to replicate the demonstration feats upon request.

Additionally, he hinted at a special track located at Tesla's Texas base for owners to experiment with these capabilities.

No dates were attached to these statements, and Tesla has yet to clarify the mechanics involved.

Autonomous Stunts Promised by Musk

In his message, Musk stated clearly: "You will be able to ask the Roadster to perform any of the tricks shown autonomously, as it will be sentient. Also, we will have a wild looping track (crazier even than Hot Wheels) at our Texas HQ where you can test out your Roadster."

The feats demonstrated on October 15 included an unmanned Roadster ascending a steep ramp via suction, traveling inverted, somersaulting mid-air, and utilizing thrusters for an upright landing. According to Tesla, this involved 10 nozzles and high-pressure air tanks.

The underlying technology is described as steer-by-wire combined with cold gas thrusters, mirroring SpaceX's spacecraft systems. This setup reportedly produces four to five times the force of tires, enabling the vehicle to soar over cars and a truck.

However, the connection between "sentient" and a simple owner-activated command remains unexplained.

Furthermore, details on the autonomous driving technology required to identify ramps, trajectories, and landing areas without driver input are lacking.

Looping Track at Tesla's Texas Facility

The proposed looping track at Giga Texas lacks specifics on dimensions, design, expenses, or launch date, beyond the "crazier than Hot Wheels" label.

This is notable as the Roadster is not yet in production, with targets set for the late 2020s, possibly 2028 at Giga Texas. The stunt-capable version, known as the Rocket package, appears limited to select buyers.

The standard Roadster is positioned as a high-performance model, with Tesla citing acceleration near 1.9 seconds to 60 mph, speeds around 250 mph, and range of about 620 miles. These specs are independent of any stunt features, and the prototype is not road-legal.

Key uncertainties include access priorities for the track, eligibility for reservation holders versus Rocket package buyers, and oversight of autonomous operations on the circuit. Any such mode must comply with closed-course safety regulations, with Tesla assuming liability for potential mishaps.
