Mercedes has introduced the updated 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS680 shortly after revealing changes to the standard GLS model.

Customers in China, the United States and Europe can begin ordering this month, while other regions including Australia will follow later.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS continues with a petrol V8 only, now using the new M177 Evo unit that incorporates an advanced integrated starter-generator.

The mild-hybrid V8 setup delivers improved smoothness, quicker response and better efficiency compared with the previous GLS600 version.

Output rises to 450kW plus 17kW of boost and 850Nm of torque, compared with the prior 410kW and 770Nm.

Claimed fuel use ranges from 13.3L/100km to 13.7L/100km, producing CO2 figures between 304g/km and 312g/km.

Standard Airmatic suspension now leverages real-time Car-to-X data to adapt to upcoming road conditions, while a dedicated Maybach drive mode prioritises maximum comfort.

Optional E-Active Body Control employs multiple processors and sensors to manage each wheel independently, preserving ride height under varying loads.

The system also supports an Offroad mode that automatically adjusts height to help free the vehicle from sand or mud.

A revised steering setup offers sharper response and a quicker ratio for improved agility.

Cabin refinement benefits from extra insulation, including non-woven material on the transmission tunnel and bulkhead, acoustic foam in body cavities, and a denser engine cover mat.

Styling updates feature larger headlights with revised internals and rose-gold accents, a new front bumper, full-width tail-lights, and an illuminated waterfall grille displaying Maybach lettering.

The bonnet ornament can be illuminated, while star motifs appear throughout the lighting and Maybach badges adorn multiple surfaces including the bumper, headlights and running boards.

Like Rolls-Royce models, the 23-inch forged wheels include a centre logo that stays upright, with a new 22-inch alloy option also offered.

Fresh non-metallic, metallic and two-tone paint choices expand the palette.

Interior options now include Beech Brown and Macchiato Beige Nappa leather plus new open-pore walnut and patterned fabric trims.

Buyers can select additional Manufaktur features such as a leather headliner.

The latest MBUX system arrives with the Superscreen standard, featuring a 12.3-inch cluster and dual 12.3-inch touchscreens with Maybach graphics flanked by illuminated vents.

Second-row passengers receive 11.6-inch displays for media and climate control, complete with remote controls and cameras for video calls.

Front seats gain vibration massage, while rear Executive Seats now include calf massage functions.

An upgraded electric cabin filter improves air quality, and the Burmester audio system adds rear speakers for a total of 15 along with a stronger 710W amplifier.

Production takes place at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama, where dedicated stations handle the hand-finished Maybach interior details.

The Maybach GLS first appeared in 2019, following the earlier G650 Landaulet as the initial Maybach SUV.

It remained the sole Maybach SUV until the more luxurious EQS SUV variant arrived in 2023.
