Marc Marquez claimed his 100th career victory across every class by powering to a dominant win at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday at Balaton Park, shortly after recovering from shoulder and foot operations.

The 33-year-old Spaniard finished ahead of KTM rider Pedro Acosta to secure his first triumph since the San Marino Grand Prix last season and his 74th MotoGP success.

The seven-time MotoGP champion's success was especially meaningful because it also gave Ducati its 100th win, while teammate Francesco Bagnaia took third place.

"Super happy. Costly win because after last year everything shifted," Marquez said after also winning Saturday's sprint from pole.

"Yet the sport works this way. Everything can shift from one day to the next. I learned that lesson in 2020 after a season-ending crash."

Multi-rider crash

The race turned into a disaster for Aprilia when Jorge Martin lost control on the opening lap at turn one and collided with three riders, including teammate and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi.

The incident also eliminated Gresini Racing's Fermin Aldeguer and Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez, removing three Aprilia machines from the contest.

"I had a poor start and when I began braking I saw something approach very quickly," Bagnaia explained.

"It was Martin arriving at double the speed, so perhaps two riders went inside and locked the front because the fresh tarmac at corner one was very slippery."

Both Martin and Bezzecchi were transported to the medical center, where Aprilia later reported Martin had bruising on his back and right foot while Bezzecchi sustained contusions on his right leg and hand, although neither showed clear fractures.

Marquez, Acosta battle

At the front, Acosta grabbed the lead on lap two by diving inside, sparking an intense duel in which the KTM rider and Marquez exchanged fastest laps while leaving Bagnaia well behind in third.

The key moment arrived on lap 14 when Marquez attempted a pass, only for Acosta to counter at once; the KTM rider even nudged his fellow Spaniard near the final turn, yet Marquez refused to yield.

Marquez seized the lead at the chicane on the following lap and then pulled clear, building a strong margin before easing to victory as Acosta appeared to battle tire degradation.

In a display of delight, he stood on his bike while crossing the finish line, then celebrated with a red flag showing the number 100.

The achievement places Marquez among an elite group as only the third rider to reach 100 wins, alongside legends Giacomo Agostini with 122 and Valentino Rossi with 115.

"We return and work hard. There were some challenges in the opening part of the season, but I knew this track offered a strong opportunity to win," Marquez added.

"I want to thank everyone who supported me, the doctors, the physios, and the many hours spent working at home. The reward was hard-earned but I am pleased to complete another comeback."

Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura placed fourth while Honda's Luca Marini rounded out the top five.
