Monaco and Las Vegas stand apart in many ways. One draws from heritage, legacy, eco-focus, and select appeal. The other grows through fresh starts, showmanship, and the idea that the next chapter can surpass what came before.

Yet during a bright morning on Explora I in Port Hercule, the two places connected closely. As Monaco readied for its Grand Prix weekend, Formula 1 leaders, Las Vegas partners, and chosen international journalists met on the upscale vessel for news that highlighted the rising role of Las Vegas in the series outlook.

The core point was clear: Formula 1 remains. The Las Vegas Grand Prix locked in a fresh 10-year deal that holds the event through 2037, ensuring continued action under the bright lights of the Strip well into the next decade.

For an event that launched only in 2023, the pledge stands out. For Formula 1, though, the choice signals far more than one strong showing. Las Vegas now ranks among the championship key long-range targets.

From Bold Notion to Steady Path

Addressing guests on Explora I, Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali looked back on the scale of the plan at its start.

"When the bold notion of a Vegas stop arose, many observers chuckled quietly," Domenicali noted.

"We stayed serious. We stayed locked on the results we aimed to build ahead."

Few efforts in recent Formula 1 times have called for matching outlays, planning, and exposure. Unlike most calendar stops, Las Vegas is run straight by Formula 1. The series bought property, raised fixed structures, and took on duties usually left to local hosts.

At launch, many saw it as a risk. After three editions, Formula 1 views the risk as rewarded.

"That we can now confirm long-term stability says much," Domenicali added.

"It shows how Formula 1 keeps planting markers across the U.S. scene."

That idea of planting markers across the U.S. scene sums up the approach. Las Vegas is no longer just one more race. It forms a key piece of Formula 1 extended American plan.

Beyond the Track

Across the talks, one idea stood out. Las Vegas is measured not only by sport results. For Formula 1 and city partners, it serves as a stage that blends sport, shows, visitors, and commerce at a level few matches reach.

"Racing sits at the core," Domenicali underlined.

"No question there. Yet we aim to grow the stage past pure racing." The point holds weight.

Formula 1 leads kept stressing that the on-track action stays central. Las Vegas has met that mark, delivering tense contests and lasting scenes since its start.

Still, the event wider draw reaches past the circuit. The series sees Las Vegas as a showcase that can draw worldwide business figures, top brands, show names, and fresh fans to the sport.

Per Domenicali, the task now is to keep the event moving forward.

"We avoid any easy seat. We know each year must bring something fresh, something more striking," he said.

The Las Vegas Impact

For city leaders, the gains reach well past race days. Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, called Formula 1 a game-changing fit for the city event lineup.

"We always sensed that once Formula 1 reached Las Vegas, the tie would hold," Hill said.

"It feels good to confirm that now with certainty."

Las Vegas has long sold itself as the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World, yet Hill sees Formula 1 in a special spot within that plan.

"No event tops this, and frankly, few tasks test a city more than hosting a Formula 1 street race amid one of the busiest U.S. hubs," he said.

The task runs deep. Each year, streets turn into a short-term track before returning to daily use. Hotels, resorts, firms, and local teams all join to stage the event.

Still, Hill holds that the work pays off due to the global reach Formula 1 brings the city.

"We use Formula 1 for worldwide notice and worldwide curiosity about our city," he noted.

"And we in turn help Formula 1 use Las Vegas to expand the U.S. reach."

It forms a link that grows stronger for both sides.

Planning Ahead

One telling part of the talks touched on facilities. The extension does more than fix dates. It opens room to plan ahead.

Emily Prazer noted that the longer deal now lets planners view the event future in new ways.

"It opens the door to weigh the facility upgrades we want to pursue," Prazer said.

Formula 1 already holds roughly 39 acres in Las Vegas, including the fixed pit complex that anchors operations. The aim ahead is to cut build times, raise output, and shape a steadier setup around the Grand Prix.

The task gains weight because Las Vegas never pauses. The city resorts, meeting halls, and show spots stay busy all year.

"Our resort allies run major meetings and gatherings before and after," Prazer noted.

"It reaches past our own needs."

Easing setup while cutting daily impact now ranks high. The extension supplies the assurance needed to back those steps.

Embracing Las Vegas Style

Perhaps the sharpest exchange came when Prazer was asked what followers can await over the next decade. Her reply summed up why Las Vegas stands out as a race venue.

"The link with the LVCVA and the resorts lets us stay true to Las Vegas," she said.

That outlook has shaped the event since day one. Through star entertainment, broad fan zones, upscale guest setups, or record drone flights, Las Vegas has leaned into the notion that Formula 1 can blend top-tier racing with big-scale shows.

The news itself showed the approach. The night before the panel, Formula 1 ran Europe largest drone display over Monaco Port Hercule, using more than 3,000 drones to mark both the Monaco Grand Prix and the Las Vegas extension.

It offered a clear sign that Formula 1 now views itself as an entertainment outlet as much as a racing series. Yet Prazer stressed that fresh ideas must stay focused.

"We have stayed bold, yet also measured," she said.

Racing Remains Central

Amid talks of shows, sponsors, and scale, Formula 1 leads keep one fact in view. The racing must stay front and center.

Domenicali returned to this point often.

"Racing is racing. We begin there," he said.

It is a note Formula 1 keeps sounding as it grows worldwide. The goal is not to swap sport for shows. The goal is to use shows to lift the sport.

That line explains why Formula 1 also backs junior racing efforts near Las Vegas, including kart programs and support steps meant to build motorsport interest across the United States.

"We want to use this chance to grow motorsport interest at every level in the U.S.," Domenicali said.

A Key Alliance

As the session ended aboard Explora I, the mood felt far from the doubts that met the event before its first run in 2023. The question is no longer whether Las Vegas fits the Formula 1 calendar. That matter looks settled. Focus now turns to how far the event can grow.

For Formula 1, the extension marks approval of one of the sport boldest modern calls. For Las Vegas, it locks in another decade as a world sports hub.
