Kia Australia has announced it will bring an electric people mover to local showrooms, with the PV5 Passenger confirmed for arrival in late 2026.

Developed from the recently introduced PV5 Cargo electric van, the Passenger variant provides three rows of seating for seven occupants. It will sit next to the Carnival, offered in eight-seat diesel or hybrid forms that have long led the Australian people mover segment.

The PV5 Passenger marks Kia's first electric people mover for Australia. While the Cargo and Passenger represent two of several PV5 body styles sold overseas, including a cab-chassis option, only the high-roof Cargo has been confirmed alongside the Passenger for the local market.

Full pricing and specifications will be revealed nearer the fourth-quarter launch, yet the Cargo's positioning suggests Kia could deliver strong value.

When launched, the PV5 Cargo became the most affordable electric van at $55,990 before on-roads. Although newer rivals such as the Farizon V7E and LDV eDeliver 5 have since appeared at lower prices, it remains well below competitors including the Peugeot e-Partner and Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo.

Competitive pricing is therefore expected for the PV5 Passenger. The $14,000 gap between the Cargo and ID. Buzz Cargo hints at a comparable spread versus the ID. Buzz, which opens at $75,990 before on-roads.

This suggests the PV5 Passenger could start near $60,000, a modest step above the Cargo. In its home market the Passenger begins at around A$42,400, compared with A$39,200 for the Cargo.

Specifications from South Korea offer further clues. The PV5 Passenger claims 358km of range on a local test cycle, slightly below the Cargo's 377km figure.

In Australia the Cargo is rated at 416km WLTP, so the Passenger should deliver around 390km. It is expected to use the same 71.2kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery from CATL.

Every PV5 comes with a single front-mounted motor producing 120kW and 250Nm.

Dimensions for the Passenger are 4695mm long, 1895mm wide and 1905mm tall, with a 2995mm wheelbase. It is nearly 400mm shorter than a Carnival yet about 150mm taller.

Seating follows a 2-2-3 layout, with the second-row pair shifted toward the right. This creates easier access to the third row via the left sliding door.

The cabin features a 7.5-inch digital cluster and 12.9-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, connected services, over-the-air updates and remote functions.

The model rides on the group's E-GMP.S platform shared with the smaller PV1 and larger PV7 commercial vehicles, all produced at the dedicated Hwaseong plant in South Korea.

Like other recent Kia models sold here, the PV5 range has received extensive local development to suit Australian conditions.
