Hyundai Australia is recalling nearly 12,000 units of its Santa Fe large SUV along with the Ioniq 6 electric sedan. The models may have seatbelts that fail to operate correctly because of a manufacturing flaw.

The firm notes in its recall notice that a production defect could cause the anchorage tensioner stopper on front seatbelts to lose tension over time.

Should this happen the anchorage might come loose, leaving the seatbelt unable to perform as required.

Without proper seatbelt function an occupant may not receive full restraint protection, raising the possibility of injury or fatality in a crash.

A total of 11,928 current-generation Santa Fe and Ioniq 6 vehicles are affected, produced between 2022 and 2026

Owners of affected cars should book a free inspection and repair at an authorised Hyundai dealer.
