Genesis prioritizes growing its Magma performance series ahead of a luxury pickup.

Genesis explored a pickup truck years ago and even produced a concept version. The notion could regain momentum because of backing from parent company Hyundai.

Hyundai Motor Group Australia COO Gavin Donaldson told Carsales that any Genesis truck must uphold the brand's luxury standards instead of appearing as a simple rebadge. He noted that the project would only move forward if it strengthens the brand image and supports its premium positioning.

No formal approval exists yet, yet the upcoming Hyundai truck program could supply the base architecture. Genesis has long built vehicles on shared Hyundai platforms while adding distinctive luxury features. A successful Hyundai mid-size pickup would therefore ease the path toward a Genesis variant.

Genesis design chief Luc Donckerwolke indicated in 2024 that early studies had been set aside. Fresh comments now place the concept back in active discussion.

A Lengthy Path Forward

A Genesis pickup is unlikely to arrive quickly. Hyundai continues development of its mid-size truck, which may adopt Kia body-on-frame technology or components from the General Motors partnership. A hybrid powertrain is also planned.

Genesis has separate priorities at present. The brand is expanding its Magma performance range and preparing halo models such as a production version of the X Gran Coupe concept.

Strong sales for the Hyundai pickup would make a Genesis edition easier to approve. Although the luxury truck segment stays limited, customers continue to pay premium prices for upscale pickups.
