Class action in California highlights issues with truck rear sliding windows and inadequate seals.

July 5, 2026 - A class action lawsuit against General Motors claims that trucks sold in California come with rear sliding windows prone to water leaks that can harm the interior.

The GM rear sliding window includes fixed glass, movable glass, and a plastic frame secured using a urethane sealant.

The lawsuit covers "all individuals who bought or leased the listed vehicles in California, first put into service after January 3, 2019."

Filiberto Loza Gonzalez, who bought a new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500, initiated the leaking rear window lawsuit. In April, with the truck showing 57,134 miles, he visited the dealership.

Gonzalez reported water entering the rear cab during vehicle washing. The class action notes the dealer confirmed the leak and fixed it per the latest technical service bulletin 18-NA-383, yet denied warranty coverage.

The plaintiff states he paid over $1,000 for the repair of the rear sliding window leak issue.

The lawsuit asserts that General Motors was aware of the defective rear sliding windows prior to sales but hid the problems with the seals permitting water entry.

It further claims GM employed inferior materials leading to leaks that promote mold growth and harm electrical parts.

The suit cites GM technical service bulletin (TSB) 18-NA-383 named, “Water Found in Rear Interior of Cab, Water Leak at Rear Sliding Window.” The complaint indicates this TSB has undergone at least 12 revisions.

“Customer may comment on finding water in the rear interior of the cab. The cause of the condition may be possible cracking in the rear sliding window plastic upper rail glass guide or a leak in the primary urethane seal.” - GM TSB 18-NA-383

GM dealers received instructions to, “R & R the roof rear spoiler and apply seam sealer to the rear sliding window top encapsulate....”

The GM rear sliding window lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California: Filiberto Loza Gonzalez v. General Motors, LLC.
