AAA data now shows the national average for regular gasoline has risen above $4.00 per gallon once more. At a moment when relief was needed, Freedom Fuels stations in the Philadelphia region have withdrawn their $3.47 per gallon offer, according to Penn Live.

President Trump endorsed the effort by New Jersey businessmen Randy Brown, an assistant coach with the Baltimore Ravens, and former commodities trader Yoni Gontownik. The pair established Freedom Fuels Network LLC shortly before the White House promoted the stations on social media. Near the Fourth of July the 25 locations sold regular fuel for up to 50 cents below market, reaching $3.47 per gallon. At the time local prices averaged roughly 33 cents higher, delivering modest savings to drivers.

The discount has now ended and prices have returned to market levels. Regular gasoline in Pennsylvania currently averages $4.22 per gallon.

Continued support could still ease pressure at the pump

Although sustaining the full $3.47 price may prove difficult, the operators retain an opportunity to assist motorists. Brown previously served as mayor of Evesham Township, New Jersey, and explored a congressional run in 2021, while Gontownik has organized fundraisers for Republican candidates. Their decision to respond to the presidential request for lower prices generated favorable attention, even if the program lasted only a few weeks.

Alternative discounts, such as 47 cents per gallon or 26 cents tied to future years, could lessen the burden without matching the original reduction. Observers note that the administration often highlights initiatives for attention before reversing course, leaving consumers to face steadily rising costs that may soon approach $5.00 per gallon in many areas.
