The front seat belts may lock and fail to extend or retract.

June 4, 2026 - Roughly 420,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles are recalled because the front seat belt pretensioners may lock the seat belts.

The front seat belts will not extend or retract properly.

The recall covers 2018-2022 Ford Expeditions and 2018-2022 Lincoln Navigators equipped with front seat belt retractor pretensioners that may deploy without warning.

A seat belt that fails to retract or extend could lead to injury during a crash, while an unexpected retractor pretensioner deployment may cause harm from sudden seat belt tightening.

The automaker notes that the propellant inside the seat belt retractor pretensioner can break down under high heat conditions.

The same issue prompted earlier Ford recalls in 2024 and 2025, yet an investigation began in January 2026 after the problem appeared on vehicles outside those prior actions.

Previous recalls addressed corroded squib pins in the seat belt pretensioners that could create high electrical resistance or open circuits. In February engineers found the fault was limited to retractor pretensioners using one specific propellant and stabilizer mix.

Ford has confirmed one injury outside the scope of the earlier recalls.

Drivers might notice an airbag warning light before the issue arises.

Ford dealers may replace the seat belt retractors. Interim recall letters will be sent between June 8 and June 12, 2026, with follow-up letters planned for August.
