July 13, 2026 - Ford has filed a Lemon Law lawsuit targeting Quill & Arrow LLP. The complaint alleges that the attorneys overcharged the automaker for fees in thousands of cases across California.

Ford has pursued similar claims previously yet faced dismissal after suing California Lemon Law firms including Knight Law Group, The Altman Law Group, and Wirtz Law APC.

Those firms faced accusations of racketeering and billing fraud tied to Lemon Law actions dating back to at least 2015.

Ford supplied supporting evidence in that matter, yet the court dismissed the case after determining the automaker had not shown the firms coordinated to inflate charges.

California Lemon Law, known as the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, grants buyers of defective vehicles the option for repurchase when manufacturers cannot fix issues under warranty after reasonable repair attempts.

The statute permits recovery of costs and expenses, including attorney fees based on actual time spent and deemed reasonable by the court.

Ford maintains the law aims at swift resolution of valid warranty claims rather than fee generation.

In the action against Quill & Arrow, Ford alleges a broad scheme to defraud the company in Lemon Law suits. The complaint further states Quill filed many such cases without client consent or awareness.

Quill is accused of creating false billing records and hindering Ford from meeting warranty duties. While standard California attorney rates range from $350 to $950 hourly, Quill reportedly applies those rates while compensating staff at far lower levels.

Ford describes Quill as operating primarily as a billing operation designed to exploit fee-shifting rules by generating numerous cases and charging automakers attorney rates for tasks completed by non-attorneys paid as little as $13 per hour.

The lawsuit contends billing records provided to Ford and courts reflect attorney rates even though work was handled by overseas assistants or domestic non-lawyer personnel.

Ford examined 169 fee applications from Quill seeking $4,450,536 total. The company asserts at least half stems from improper billing practices.

The complaint adds that Quill misrepresented non-lawyer work as attorney-performed tasks, resulting in at least $25 million in improper charges.

Since January 2021, Ford reports paying Quill $101,222,668.94, with roughly half allocated to attorney fees.

The case, Ford Motor Company v. Quill & Arrow LLP, was brought in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
