As competition starts at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games (23 July - 2 August, 2026), we are delighted to highlight the five athletes with an intellectual impairment who have earned spots to represent Australia on the global stage in T20 and S14 events.

Competing in Para Athletics and Para Swimming, these athletes have secured their places on the team after years of hard work, training and resilience. Their selection marks a key achievement in their personal careers and helps boost the profile of athletes with intellectual impairments at elite levels.

Australian Para Athletics

Lindsey Hendy - Men's Long Jump T20
Representing Australia in the Men's Long Jump T20, Lindsey builds on an international career founded on persistence and steady results. From first trying athletics as a youngster in Townsville to now making his Commonwealth Games debut, Lindsey's path shows many years of dedication to the sport.

Archie Hewett - Men's 1500m T20
Middle-distance runner Archie Hewett will race in the Men's 1500m T20 at his first Commonwealth Games. From Mornington, Victoria, Archie's athletics path began in primary school via cross country and he has since put in the effort to create a strong athletics record. In 2025, he represented Australia at the Virtus World Athletics Championships.

Daniel Milone - Men's 1500m T20
Daniel Milone will compete alongside fellow Victorian Archie Hewett in the Men's 1500m T20. Daniel has steadily advanced his middle-distance career through reliable results, leading to his selection and debut at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He has previously represented Australia at the Virtus Asia Oceania Games in Brisbane in 2022.

Australian Para Swimming

Jack Ireland PLY - Men's 200m Freestyle S14
Jack Ireland returns to the Commonwealth Games in the Men's 200m Freestyle S14. A Paralympian and World Championship medallist, Jack also represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 and adds extensive international experience to the Australian squad.

Madeleine (Maddie) McTernan PLY - Women's 200m Freestyle S14
Maddie McTernan will represent Australia in the Women's 200m Freestyle S14 at her second Commonwealth Games. Maddie has become a Paralympian and made her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham 2022. Along with her elite swimming career, Maddie shows leadership as a member of the Virtus Athlete Council.
