Stellantis Australia has nearly cleared its remaining inventory of the Fiat 500e battery electric city car and its Abarth counterpart, yet the company insists the Italian marques will continue operating locally.

Under the Stellantis umbrella, Fiat and Fiat Professional operate as distinct entities in Australia, with Abarth forming the third element of the group.

Once the 500e exits, Fiat and Abarth will have no passenger cars on offer, although Fiat Professional has expanded its range by reintroducing the Scudo van.

“Fiat 500e and Abarth 500e stock in Australia has now largely been sold through and, at this stage, we are not planning additional orders while we evaluate future product opportunities for the local market,” said a Stellantis Australia spokesperson.

“We continue to support our Fiat and Abarth customers and dealer network and look forward to sharing more information about Fiat's and Abarth’s future plans in Australia at the appropriate time.”

Stellantis Australia, responsible for Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Leapmotor as well, has not disclosed which models might return under the Fiat or Abarth badges or how long the current pause could last.

The company also declined to explain why the 500e is being withdrawn after 117 units were delivered in 2024 and 176 in 2025. Year to date, 144 examples from the broader 500 family have been registered, incorporating unsold petrol versions of the Fiat 500 and Abarth 695.

“As part of Stellantis Australia's ongoing portfolio and product planning process, the availability of specific models can vary over time as we assess market demand and future product opportunities,” the company added.

“We remain focused on ensuring the vehicles we bring to Australia meet customers’ expectations. Following Stellantis' recent confirmation of Fiat as one of its core global brands, we are excited by the opportunities the brand presents for the future.”

The Fiat Australia inventory search currently shows only four unsold 500e units and nine Abarth 500e examples nationwide, all built in 2023 or 2024. It appears no newer 500e hatchbacks have arrived since the initial shipment.

Although this suggests modest demand for the electric micro car, Fiat still holds leftover petrol powered 500 models.

Its locator lists 31 examples of the discontinued combustion 500 plus one petrol Abarth 695, even though imports of these petrol variants were halted in August 2024.

Future model choices for Fiat and Abarth remain uncertain. While Fiat has been named a core global brand, no China built vehicles are planned for it, unlike Jeep and Peugeot. Brazilian Fiat products are left hand drive only, so right hand drive European models are the likely source.

In the United Kingdom, Fiat sells the 500e, the Topolino quadricycle (unsuitable for Australia) and commercial variants of the Ducato, Scudo and Doblo.

The Fiat 600 small SUV, launched in 2023 to replace the 500X that left Australia in 2021, comes in petrol, electric and Abarth 600e guises. The Grande Panda, introduced in 2024 with mild hybrid and full electric options, is another candidate, yet neither line has been confirmed locally. The larger Grizzly SUV revealed this year is also unconfirmed.

Although Fiat and Abarth appear together in VFACTS data, Fiat Professional has been tracked separately since 2013. Apart from 2020 and 2022, it has exceeded 1000 annual sales, reaching 1541 units in 2025, all Ducato vans. Passenger car volumes have fluctuated more widely.

Fiat’s strongest year was 2014, shortly after commercial sales were separated, with 5758 deliveries. The 500 accounted for 2995 of those, followed by 1560 Freemont wagons. Punto and Panda sales ended the following year.

After 2014, passenger volumes fell each year except for a modest rise in 2021, bottoming at 357 units in 2022. Sales recovered to 755 in 2023 before declining again.

Fourteen dealerships currently handle Fiat Professional vans, while passenger car outlets have shrunk to five locations.
