JLR Australia has officially confirmed that the Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric will reach local showrooms in the first half of 2027, representing the brand's initial move into full battery-electric power.

In discussions with CarExpert, a local spokesperson noted that complete information on variants, pricing and technical specifications will be released later this year, while the vehicles themselves are scheduled to arrive during the opening six months of 2027.

Both models are expected to use the same electric drivetrain, with reports pointing to a dual-motor setup delivering 404kW and 850Nm. This figure sits close to the output of the current 4.4-litre petrol V8, and power will come from a 118.5kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery offering an estimated 600km of WLTP range.

The vehicles are built on the MLA Flex platform, and the Range Rover Sport Electric will share its wheelbase with the standard-length Range Rover, although an extended-wheelbase version of the full-size model remains available.

Design changes are minimal, allowing the electric versions to blend in with existing petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid models. One prototype seen at Goodwood featured EV badging on the wheel centres instead of the usual Range Rover script.

Customer orders for the Range Rover Electric opened in 2023, and the vehicle has since completed extensive global testing to ensure it meets the brand's standards for durability and performance.

JLR continues to emphasise that the electric models will retain key off-road capabilities, including an 850mm wading depth, while also offering over-the-air updates, energy-management partnerships and systems designed to optimise driving range.

Pricing details remain unknown, though current gaps between petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants suggest the electric versions could carry only a modest premium. Australia's New Vehicle Efficiency Standard may further encourage competitive pricing for zero-emission models.
