The electric Denza Z sports car has passed another regulatory step on the path to its debut in China, potentially paving the way for future introduction in Australia.

Details have surfaced in a Chinese government certification document, suggesting the model could reach the local market within several months.

Three versions appear in the filing from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, including a coupe, a soft-top convertible, and a track-oriented coupe variant, each accommodating four passengers and using a tri-motor all-wheel-drive electric system.

The document specifies outputs of 340kW from each rear motor and 500kW from the front motor, delivering a total peak of 1180kW.

Maximum speeds reach 300km/h for the standard coupe and convertible, while the performance-oriented model is listed at 350km/h.

Each variant incorporates a lithium iron phosphate battery, consistent with BYD technology that also powers the U9 supercar from the Yangwang lineup.

Dimensions for the Denza Z span 4780mm to 4870mm in length, 1990mm in width, and 1330-1350mm in height, with a 2780mm wheelbase, placing it longer than a Porsche 911 yet shorter than a Maserati GranTurismo while sharing similar width and height proportions.

Kerb weights range from 2220kg to 2290kg across the variants, with coupe models reportedly fitted with carbon-fibre roofs to reduce mass.

The Z coupe first appeared as a concept last April in near-production form, and the convertible version was shown at this year's Beijing motor show.

During the concept unveiling, Denza highlighted its DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological suspension system, which scans the road surface thousands of times each second and continuously tunes the dampers.

The vehicle also incorporates what Denza describes as China's first fully in-house developed steer-by-wire setup, enhanced by AI that learns individual driving styles.

This technology is said to refine itself over time and deliver authentic road feedback.

At the convertible debut in April, the brand stated the Z can accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than 2.0 seconds.

Denza began customer deliveries in Australia earlier this year with the B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid SUVs along with the D9 electric people mover.

The 850kW tri-motor Z9 GT shooting brake is scheduled to arrive in the third quarter of this year.

Denza Australia has expressed interest in adding a sports car to its local range in the future.

Mark Harland, the company's chief operating officer, noted his preference for performance models and confirmed ongoing discussions with headquarters about bringing either the Denza Z or Yangwang U9 to Australia, while acknowledging the low volumes and high pricing involved.

He indicated a U9 would likely approach 250000 dollars and stressed the need to first build brand presence, expand stores, and strengthen aftersales support before introducing such vehicles.

Harland added that further opportunities would depend on strong market reception for the B5 and B8 models and solid dealer performance.
