Car enthusiasts in gaming have plenty to anticipate with upcoming releases like Forza Horizon 6, the highly awaited Grand Theft Auto VI, and BeamNG arriving on PS5. Joining these is Clutch, a narrative-focused driving experience from Maverick Games under Mike Brown, who previously served as creative director on the Forza Horizon series.

Developed over three and a half years, Clutch mixes sanctioned daytime track events with nighttime illegal street races and heist sequences inspired by Fast and Furious films. While the visuals appear polished, the standout feature involves deep customization of car interiors, building immersion one discarded drink at a time.

The reveal video highlights unprecedented detail in vehicle models, including precise stitching, accurate paint finishes, and other fine elements. It also aims to portray cars as lived-in spaces, something rarely emphasized in major racing titles for consoles.

Pop-out cupholders receive full modeling treatment

Vintage vehicles will display authentic aging effects such as dusty trim, paint imperfections from long drives, and seats with a natural sheen from use. Brown notes there will be visible traces of wear, affection, and real adventures behind the wheel.

Players can personalize their rides in relatable ways through options like interchangeable paint schemes, spoilers, wheels, and exhaust tips. Clutch advances further by allowing placement of typical interior clutter found in daily driven cars, such as beverages in a Porsche Cayman GT4 cupholder, scattered receipts and tickets on the dashboard, or a hoodie tossed on the passenger seat. Fluffy dice remain under development.

The project is ongoing, and Brown invites suggestions for additional items to include. Proposed features include Molly Tea cups and the option to clutter the passenger footwell with discarded water bottles. Clutch launches in spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, plus PC.
