The Cadillac Vistiq electric SUV faces a US recall over a problem with its power-folding third-row seats, yet vehicles bound for Australia remain unaffected by the action.

Cadillac Australia has stated that the recall will not alter the Vistiq launch timeline, which continues to target the fourth quarter of 2026 for local release.

The correction will occur at the Spring Hill, Tennessee manufacturing facility, the source of Vistiq production for every market except China.

According to a US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice issued on June 18, 14,540 Vistiqs are subject to the recall in America, and shipments of 2027 model-year units were paused while the matter is resolved.

The Vistiq includes second- and third-row seats that operate via controls in the cargo area.

Recall documents indicate the third-row seatback fails to stop and reverse automatically upon detecting an obstruction.

Dealers in the US will temporarily disable the third-row function until replacement parts arrive, at which point the seat module will be swapped out.

Cadillac Australia has verified that the necessary update will be implemented on vehicles prior to export, avoiding any post-delivery complications for local buyers.

A separate recall entry appears on the Australian Government database covering two Vistiqs already in the country, both of which have not reached customers and carry a warning about potential entrapment for smaller occupants.

Attention on power-folding third rows has increased in the US after a fatal incident involving a child in a new Hyundai Palisade.

The Vistiq recall began with a March 31, 2026 report from a GM engineer through an internal safety program prompted by the Palisade case.

GM noted that its review followed another manufacturer's recall on similar second- and third-row power seats that did not react properly to contact.

Testing showed the seatback continued folding despite a 33- to 40-pound box in place, leaving the box trapped until the mechanism was reversed manually.

GM recorded six additional related reports between May 2025 and April 2026, none involving injuries, before authorizing the recall on June 11, 2026.

The Vistiq will serve as the third Cadillac model offered in Australia alongside the Lyriq, already arriving since early 2025, and the Optiq expected in the third quarter of this year.

It marks the brand's first three-row SUV in the local market and will be sold exclusively in Platinum specification with a six-seat configuration featuring second-row captain chairs.
